On Saturday (3rd), a man who had long resided in the DRC departed from there while infected, traveling via Uganda by plane to Kenya. He was hospitalized upon arrival in Nairobi and died on Monday (5th), becoming Kenya's first Ebola death case.
Ten of the deceased's relatives and 21 medical staff who had contact with him in the hospital have all been placed under isolation. Kenyan authorities are also tracking down 27 individuals who were on the same flight.
The Africa CDC revealed that the man had been ill for about a month in the DRC before entering Uganda by land and then flying to Nairobi, where he was neither intercepted nor detected as infected upon entry. Authorities are now reviewing why he was not identified as infected throughout the entire journey. (yc)
